A ‘Mega’Watt Wedding

As Charan and Upasna tie the knot today at 7.30 am at the Temple Trees farmhouse Gandipet, it is ‘mega’ celebration time in the city. While the shaadi is an exclusive affair, we bring you exclusive details on everything from from the décor, the couple’s designer wear to the celeb guest list, the menu and all the wedding details
WHAT’S IN THAT TROUSSEAU, GIRL? Jemima Eliot
Upasna’s trousseau is the stuff of bridal dreams. She will be dressed by the master of bridal couture, Tarun Tahiliani, himself. Giving us a lowdown on her wedding outfit, Tarun says, “Upasna will wear a sheathed yellow-gold South Indian silk sari with a fine Swarovski-encrusted border done with zardozi French knots and a sprinkling of tiny soldered stones. This will be complemented by a rani pink zardozi corset blouse and a rani pink fine tulle veil, also twinkling with tiny delicate motifs. This will create a subtle effect that will allow her hair and hair ornaments to be visible throughout.” The groom too will be dressed by Tarun, who says, “Charan will be in a coordinated dhoti, paired with a fine chikan kurta and stole.” Anamika Khanna, who will also add to Upsi’s eclectic trousseau, says, “It is a mix of everything — saris, lehengas and dresses in all kinds of fabric ranging from chiffon and georgettes to cottons. All her outfits are elegant and understated. OPERA-STYLE WEDDINGSuresh Kavirayani
Abig brass mandapam reminiscent of the Domakonda fort; opera style seating arrangements, complete with the balcony and overhanging chandeliers; a crystal Nandi made by artisans from Jaipur right at the entrance — that’s just a small sample of what the Mega wedding venue is like.
Popular art director Anand Sai, who designed the entire venue that spreads over 3 acres, says, “The look might be opulent, but there is nothing garish about it. Even with the flower décor, we have not gone overboard.” According to sources, the venue will have a metallic grey backdrop, for which special painters have been brought in from Mumbai. The colour combination being used is light yellow and dark yellow because the event is happening in the day time.” The main mandapam, we learn, closely resembles the Domakonda fort, the ancestral home of the Kamineni family. It’s apparently made of brass and the pillars have an antique finish. A source close to the Apollo family reveals, “The Kaminenis wanted the mandapam to look like their fort. The artisans were also taken to the fort for the same.” Talking about the whole experience, Anand Sai says, “This is a very special assignment for me. I just want to make the wedding a memorable experience for the bride and groom.”

It seems like the whole movie fraternity in the country has descended in the city to make their presence felt at the ‘shaadi of the year’. The South industry will be represented by stalwarts Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. “Chiranjeevi and his wife Surekha personally invited Rajinikanth and Kamal to their only son’s nuptials. While Rajinikanth will attend the wedding with his family, Kamal will be accompanied by Gauthami,” said a source. “That apart, Surya, Karthi, Vishal and Simbu will be at the reception. Dhanush will come along with Rajini,” adds the source. The T-wood movie fraternity will be represented by all the biggies — Mahesh Babu, Balakrishna, Venkatesh, Nagarjuna, Pawan Kalyan, Mohan Babu, Ravi Teja and Prabhas. “Besides them, every prominent movie producer, director and actor from T-Town will be present at the wedding,” added the source. Bollywood will be represented by Salman, who is quite fond of Charan, apart from Akshay, Aamir and Sridevi-Boney Kapoor.
